Maureen Mays is your girl next door.  A local with roots and memories of DC before they moved The Awakening to the National Harbor.  She has been a closet writer for many years; secretly writing what she hears, feels, and sees. It has been her therapy for living in such a complex world.  Maureen attended Howard University and later graduated from the University of MD University College with a degree in Human Resource Management. Maureen is a natural lover of art.  She grew up being exposed to the sights, sounds and smells of Washington DC. This includes the sounds of GO-GO music and street performers. The mambo sauce, bean pies, Ben’s Chilli Bowl, and the Wharf, where you got fresh seafood, before it was remodeled. The variety of museums, statues, parks, and scenic views of the Potomac river.  She also served in the United States Army Reserves as a military police officer and civil affairs specialist. There she learned many disciplines and the beauty of family to among individuals who are not biologically related to you.  She is a devoted mother of two children. They share her love of travel, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy. She enjoys writing, painting, cooking, live music, gardening, history, dancing, and living life to its fullest.
